Wooden sunglasses
Why choose wooden sunglasses
Wooden sunglasses are a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic or metal sunglasses with wood being a renewable resource that can be sustainably harvested. We wanted to use wood as a material because it is biodegradable and does not contribute to pollution when disposed of.
One of the main advantages of wooden sunglasses is their unique aesthetic. The natural grain patterns of the wood give each pair of sunglasses a distinct look, making them a stylish and fashionable accessory. They are also lightweight, which can make them more comfortable to wear for extended periods of time.
Finnish birch wood sunglasses
All our sunglasses are made from high quality, eco-friendly certified Finnish birch veneer. Birch wood is considered to be a sustainable resource for a number of reasons.
Firstly, birch wood is biodegradable, meaning that it can be broken down by natural microorganisms and will not contribute to pollution or other environmental problems.
Secondly, birch is a versatile wood that can be used in a wide range of products. If you’re wondering why we don’t use tree species native to Kenya, the answer is that we don’t want to cut down trees in a country that is suffering badly from erosion. In Finland the forest industry is balanced, and we’ve found birch wood to be more durable in different climates as it grows slower, and the wood is denser than tree species in Africa.
Lastly, trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, and when the wood is used, it stores the carbon in the product, acting as a carbon sink. So far, we’ve planted over 40,000 trees that act as carbon sinks every day in our own nursery in Kenya.
